Travel Directions

Note please: Your GPS and online mapping may steer you down a road you cannot pass!
Please follow our directions below the interactive Google Map.

Ashuelot River Campground is in the middle of covered bridge territory and covered bridges have limitations! The most direct route to the campground from NH Route 10 will take you over the Thompson Bridge in West Swanzey, but if you have a trailer in tow, or have a rig that is over 8 feet tall, you won’t be able to pass.

PLEASE READ SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY THE DIRECTIONS BELOW AND PUT THE WORDS TOGETHER WITH THE MAP TO KEEP YOU ON THE CORRECT PATH.

Your GPS will serve you well until you are within a couple miles of the campground. Go ahead and use it to get yourself to Route 10 below (South of) the town of Keene, then follow the directions below! NOTE: Coming from Routes 9 or 101, in Keene, Route 10 South out of Keene is called Winchester Street until it becomes West Swanzey Road. Ignore the name, please.

Trailer in tow or over 8 feet tall: From NH Route 10, look for the big blue and white highway sign indicating the turn toward the campground onto South Winchester Street. Heading NORTH toward Keene, this will be a right onto South Winchester Street. Heading SOUTH from Keene, the big blue and white highway sign is about 5 miles from the traffic circle and will indicate a left onto South Winchester Street. Follow the little blue and white trailer icons through several turns. Turn right on Denman Thompson and cross the river, following the blue and white trailer icons at each turn; turn left onto Holbrook Avenue (formerly Homestead Avenue). Holbrook turns into Railroad Avenue at the stop sign; continue on Railroad and veer left onto Pine Street. DO NOT TURN INTO PORT-O-LITE, AND DO NOT HEAD INTO THE CEMETERY; stay on the blacktop. Pine Street curves around, back toward the river – we are at the end of the road.

FROM ROUTE 12 NORTH: If you are coming from the South and take route 12, simply continue North to Rt 101, head West (left) on 101 and in a mile or so get on Route 10 South (left). Follow directions above.

Single vehicle under 8 feet tall, with nothing in tow: From NH 10 north or southbound, take California Street and cross the river on the Thompson Bridge. Continue through the village and turn left onto Railroad Street at the stop sign. In a short way, veer left onto Pine Street. Pine Street curves around, back toward the river – we are at the end of the road.

For supplies on the way in: On NH 10, coming from the north, there is a Market Basket grocery store between Swanzey and Keene. There is also Gomarlo’s Food and Circus near the turn onto South Winchester Street. We are a short ten-minute drive from Keene where there are all the stores and shops anyone could want.
